Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Skillumen collects, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Account data — your name, email address, and password (stored hashed) when you sign up.
- Learning & usage data — your progress, recall ratings, answers, code you write in labs, quiz/mock results, streaks, and feature usage, so the product can grade you, schedule reviews, and track progress.
- Voice-mock data — if you use AI voice mock interviews, we process the audio you record to transcribe and score your answers. Audio is processed to provide the feature and is not sold.
- Payment data — when you subscribe, our payment processor (e.g. Razorpay in India, and/or other processors) collects and processes your payment details. We do not store your full card/UPI details; we receive only limited information such as a transaction reference and status.
- Technical data — device/browser type, IP address, and cookies or local storage used to keep you signed in and remember your progress and preferences.
2. Why we use it
- To provide, operate, and personalise the learning experience (grading, the AI tutor, spaced-repetition scheduling, mock-interview scoring).
- To process payments, manage subscriptions, and prevent fraud.
- To respond to support requests and send service-related communications.
- To maintain security, debug, and improve the product.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run Skillumen, under appropriate confidentiality and data-protection terms, including:
- Payment processors (e.g. Razorpay, and/or international processors) to take payments;
- AI / LLM providers to power grading, the AI tutor, and mock-interview scoring;
- Speech providers for speech-to-text and text-to-speech in voice mocks;
- Hosting, storage, email, and analytics providers that operate the platform.
We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.
4. Data retention & location
We keep your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, then delete or anonymise it, unless a longer period is required by law. Payment data handled by our payment processors is stored and localised in accordance with applicable regulations, including the Reserve Bank of India's data-localisation requirements for payment data.
5. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data (including encryption in transit and hashed passwords). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your rights & choices
- You can access or update your account information from your profile.
- You can request a copy or deletion of your personal data by emailing support@skillumen.com.
- You can cancel your subscription at any time (see the Cancellation & Refunds Policy).
- You can manage cookies via your browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.
7. Cookies & local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember your progress and preferences, and understand aggregate usage. We do not use them to build advertising profiles.
8. Children
Skillumen is intended for users aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; we'll revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to notify you.
